| Ziele/Aims |
Students should be able to work on their own scientific project using bioinformatics, programming and statistical methods to analyze large biological data sets. |
| Inhalte/Content |
New methods for sequencing entire genomes (keyword: next-generation sequencing) and transcriptomes or other ‘OMICs’ data pose ever greater challenges for science in terms of statistical data analysis. Possible problems include, for example, the assembly of many thousands of genome fragments or the treatment of repeats in genome regions, as well as the validity of structural predictions. This module primarily focuses on analysis of large scale sequencing data and teaches modern statistical and bioinformatics methods for the analyses.

Basic programming skills (e.g. Python), e.g. acquired in Biocomputing Course I or 2, are strongly recommended.

| Methoden/Methods |
Depending on the scientific project, various bioinformatic programmes and statistical packages would be used to analyze the data. Some of the analytical pipelines may require programming.
